Speaker - Frances Myers

As a clinical dietitian Fran spent many, many years working in hospitals and nursing homes. She managed tube feedings for adult residents who had never had a voice. These individuals taught her many valuable lessons about quality of life, family dynamics, the role of religion, state laws, and so much more.

Working in hospice came next and opened Fran’s eyes to realism, to futile treatments, to the beauty of good quality of life and being at peace with what’s to come.

Fran continued her journey in Advance Care Planning when she become the Manager of Faith Initiatives for The Conversation Project in Boulder. In this position she encountered people who had persistent fears about end of life. Fran found that they had absolutely no-one they could trust to say “This is the expressed wish of my dear friend or relative.”

At this time several people asked Fran if she would be their advocate. This lead to the founding of this organization, The Center for Advance Care Planning. The group is a nonprofit 501c(3) registered in the State of Colorado. The Center is dedicated to providing education and services centered around Advance Care Planning and Advocacy.

Public speaking is one of Fran’s passions, and end-of-life topics is another. A wide range of audiences have been grateful for the eye opening aspects of this topic. Most people are not well versed in all the areas of Advance Care Planning, and are often thinking they are “covered” only to then realize the most critical parts are untouched in depth Advance Care Planning.

At Fran’s presentations, audiences don’t shy away from the topic. Indeed, they are engaged and stay late to ask one question after another. These talks have relevance to ourselves, our loved ones and our friends.
