He was President of CoorsTek from 1997 to October 1998 and from 1985 to 1993. From 1992 to 1999, he served as President of ACX Technologies, Inc.  Joe and his wife, Gail, have been married for 48 years. 5-Minute Spotlight – June 2011
Diane Sweat, SendOutCards
After 25 years as a full-time volunteer, Diane Sweat is now a Senior Manager with SendOutCards, one of the easiest and most cost-effective marketing tools for businesses.  She’s been with SendOutCards for four years and enjoys meeting with people one-to-one to get to know them.

Diane thinks using SendOutCards is a smart business move for any business, especially those that want to retain customers, and convert prospects to new customers.  She says SOC does these things by helping businesses keep in contact with current and would-be customers as frequently as they desire:  monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, etc.  It’s an especially good way to thank customers for their business because it’s timely, very affordable, and a fast and easy way to market to them.

In just 30 minutes, Diane can help business-people learn the system, join, and start sending cards to customers.  Why do it?  Because there is nothing more effective than a heart-felt, personal card in the mail to create good will and trust, the hallmarks of a successful business.  Diane is married to Buzz, and has two daughters and a son-in-law.  She and Buzz live near Applewood.

Free, No-Strings-Attached, Clever Marketing Opportunity For Lakewood Businesses

Would you like the name of your business to be put in front of the new St. Anthony Medical Campus employees for no charge, all wrapped up in pretty gift bag welcoming them to Lakewood? Of course you would!

Lakewood Economic Development and Sustainability is giving businesses a chance to participate in an opportunity to attract St. Anthony Hospital employees to patronize their businesses. The City is preparing welcome gift bags to be given to the hospital’s doctors, nurses and staff members – more than 1,000 employees who are new to Lakewood and potential new customers.

The purpose of the bags is to increase awareness of local businesses and to promote our Support Lakewood, Shop Local campaign.

The details:

  • Be creative and make your business stand out!  Give the employees a reason to get out of their cars at lunch or after work to come visit you and support the local small businesses.
  • Only Lakewood-based businesses or branches are eligible to participate.
  • No discount coupons – these are gift bags to encourage the employees to visit your business.
  • One type of product or service per industry on a first-come, first-served basis.  This is your opportunity to be the first and only business in front of these employees.
  • All potential gifts must be preapproved by Rachel Griffin, Lakewood’s economic development specialist handling this project. Please do not print or bring items to Rachel before clearing it with her.
  • To fill each bag, your business must provide 900 items.
  • If an expiration date is necessary, it must be after July 2012.
  • Lakewood Economic Development and Sustainability will handle all of the details, from stuffing the bags, to promotional outreach announcing your generosity, to the delivery of the bags in a welcome ceremony.
  • Examples of contributions thus far have been gifts of cups of coffee, desserts or beverages at restaurants, a fitness class, and a sample of shampoo. Gifts don't need to be expensive, just something to catch the employees’ eyes to encourage them to visit your business and possibly spend more money when they are there.

Lakewood Economic Development and Sustainability provided similar bags last year to the employees of OrthoColorado, which was the first part of the new St. Anthony Medical Campus to open. In a welcoming ceremony conducted by Lakewood Mayor Bob Murphy, the specialty gift bags filled with donations and certificates from over 50 businesses in Lakewood were presented. From restaurants to dry cleaners to service stations, businesses were able to showcase their products and services to what will ultimately become Lakewood’s fourth largest employer.

If you’d like to get the name of your business in front of the St. Anthony Hospital employees, please contact Rachel Griffin, economic development specialist at the City of Lakewood for more information at racgri@lakewood.org before June 15.
